About Pack 120

About Pack 120
When you’re a kid, fun comes first. Final exams, driver’s ed, and summer jobs will arrive soon enough. Cub Scouts helps kids (whatever their gender) have fun while teaching them skills that will help them later in life. From the thrill of practicing archery to learning how to transform a block of wood into a race car, Cub Scouts is one thrill after another. With a program expertly tailored to match each age in a young person's life, Cub Scouts learn that even when fun isn’t easy, it’s always an adventure. In Scouting, everything has a purpose, and it shows kids that doing their best is the most fun of all.

Pack 120 was originally chartered with the Keezletown Ruritans in Keezletown, Virginia, for many years we were hosted by Vision of Hope UMC on Port Republic Road in Rockingham, Virginia. As of 2024, we are delighted to be hosted by Massanutten Presbyterian Church. We welcome any Scout, but we currently draw primarily from Cub Run and Peak View Elementary Schools in Rockingham County, with several scouts also coming from elementary schools in Harrisonburg.

As one of the largest and most active Cub Scout Packs in the Mountain Valley District of the Virginia Headwaters Council, our vibrant group of kids and involved parents plan numerous events throughout the year, service-oriented projects, along with fun and educational trips within the Shenandoah Valley and surrounding areas.

We typically hold our Pack meetings on the second or third Monday of each month at 6:00 pm at Massanutten Presbyterian Church (50 Indian Trail Rd, Penn Laird, VA 22846). Our Scouts enjoy the outdoors, so we hold as many outdoor activities as we can.

One of the primary goals of Pack 120 is to ensure the Scouts have a positive Scouting experience, receive every opportunity to participate in events, and enjoy the journey. Scouting is what the Scouts and families make of the program, and we continue to have a great group of Scouts and parents making this happen every year.

1 - Pack 120 - Leaders 2025-2026

Pack 120 Leaders are a group of parents who want to see our kids have fun and thrive in service.

In Cubscouts, all of the cubs in an area are members of a Pack (ours is Pack 120). The Pack has several smaller units, usually at least one per grade in elementary school, called Dens.

I'm so happy to finally get to return to scouting! I was in scouts in my youth and earned the Eagle Scout rank. I benefitted from the hard work of so many leaders and mentors, and am delighted to pay it forward. My daughter Mary's crossed over to Troop 242 and my son Charlie is in the Bear den this year. Outside of scouting, I am a professor in the Department of Computer Science at JMU. I enjoy cooking, eating, playing games, learning, hiking, and hearing about your pets.

I'm so glad to be able to participate in Scouting America! I watched my brother learn so much in scouts and wanted to go where he went and learn what he learned. I've always loved the outdoors, and I'm so happy to lead a den of sweet girls, including my daughter, and help Michael as Assistant Cubmaster. I also have a son in Troop 40, and a younger son not quite ready for Cub Scouts yet. Welcome to our Pack!

I'm a proud dad with one son in Troop 40 and another in the Wolf den. As a professor of nutrition at James Madison University, I’m passionate about education and growth; both in the classroom and in the outdoors. I love hiking, fishing, and hunting, and I truly enjoy watching Scouts grow, learn, and thrive through the adventures and values of the pack. Welcome to Pack 120!

I grew up in Scouts and still have many fond memories and connections to this day. I look forward to going through it again with a different lens as my oldest starts Lions. It will be fun learning to keep the cats (Lions) herded while being a big kid myself! I have worked in the manufacturing and construction spaces my entire professional career. I have a lot of different and unique interests and love hearing about other's as well!

Hi Scouts, once upon a time, I was a Cub Scout too—starting out as a Wolf Scout in Elkton, VA. Our den met after school in the basement of Elkton United Methodist Church, where many fun activities and great times with friends created lasting memories. Later, I joined Troop 28 at Massanutten Presbyterian Church and earned the rank of Eagle Scout.
Throughout the journey, incredible Scout leaders offered guidance and support, shaping my experience in meaningful ways. Today, it's an honor to carry that spirit forward and be a supportive leader for the Scouts of Pack 120.
